In conjunction with the the Heritage in School Scheme a heritage expert Suzanna Anker visited our school on the 9th and 10th October to teach the children about different fabrics, spinning and weaving! Children found out where the wool comes from, how it is spun, dyed, woven and felted! The children were given the opportunity to spin thier own wool and really enjoyed themselves! Thereafter, the children also examined a selection of traditional wool-spinning tools and a range of sheeps wool skeins, dyed using locally-grown plants.
This programme encourages an awareness of the genius of the natural and cultural world amongst primary school children and engage them in a direct experience of their heritage.
