Doolin National School took part in a global week for climate action. During the week, our classes learned about different aspects of climate change, the 3 R’s – Reduce, Re-Use and Recycle and why we depend so much on trees.
We also took the opportunity to get outside and enjoy our beautiful school grounds and appreciate the diversity that exists right here. As we are working on our Biodiversity theme we planted our tree we received for National Tree Day and encouraged children to carpool and use the school bus to cut down on our carbon footprint.
The week provided the perfect opportunity to start a new planting project too. Mr. Donnellans classroom worked together and began to clean and plant the raised beds with pollinator friendly bulbs.
Ms. Moroney made a Wormery in the 5th & 6th Classroom!: Wormery in Fifth and Sixth Class from this children learned where a worm likes to live and understand their importance for healthy soil and healthy plants.
The whole school were involved in a low energy day to ensure all children in school are aware of their energy usage and also the difference it makes to be aware of the energy we are using in school and also at home.
